What does local data tell you?
Who lives somewhere, and when.
A census describes the people living in a place at the census date. The share born outside the UK does not tell you how many arrived this year.
People can move between councils after arriving in the UK. A local change can reflect internal moves as well as international migration, births and deaths.
Asylum support figures cover the people included in that support measure. They are not a count of every migrant, every refugee or every person claiming asylum in a council.
Does a council’s foreign-born population equal its latest annual immigration?
