Follow the claim to its source
A finding belongs to one specific claim, not the whole article.
- Find the claim
Identify exactly what the article says. Keep its population, place, period and unit attached.
- Open the original evidence
Use the official table or original research, including its definitions, assumptions and revisions.
- Check the comparison
Two separate AI reviews compare the claim with that evidence. New checks are also approved by an editor before they appear. The finding explains a match, a difference or the context that is missing.
- Keep checking the sources
Daily refreshes revalidate the reviewed passages. Changed, unavailable or expired evidence removes the active finding until it can be checked again.
What the labels mean
Matches the source means the stated claim agrees with the cited evidence and its scope. Ordinary rounding can still be a match.
Needs context means an identified omission changes how the claim should be read. The check explains what is missing.
Differs from the source means the specific claim conflicts with the cited evidence. It does not establish why the error happened.
What runs automatically
Approved feeds supply new migration stories. The collector removes duplicates and keeps publisher dates. Existing claim checks are revalidated against their reviewed source passages.
A new article does not receive a finding merely because it mentions a familiar number. It needs a scoped claim, original evidence and independent review first. Reporting without a check is still available to read.
Sources and coverage
The feed includes BBC News, The Guardian, GB News, GOV.UK, the Commons Library, the Migration Observatory and Full Fact. No single publisher can fill more than six places. This is still a limited source list. Opinion and research are labelled, and every story links to its publisher.
Official statistics can be provisional. Research models depend on assumptions. A claim check keeps those limitations beside the result.
